INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION UNIT FACULTY OF MEDICINE, UDAYANA UNIVERSITY
The Interprofessional Education Unit (IPE Unit) is one of the units under the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University (FK Unud). This unit plans, develops, and implements the interprofessional education curriculum. Since its establishment to the present, students involved in learning at the IPE Unit have come from seven study programs, including the undergraduate medical education program, the undergraduate nursing program, the physical therapy program, the public health program, the undergraduate dental medicine education program, the psychology program under Faculty of Medicine Udayana University.(FoM Unud), and the undergraduate pharmacy program under the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). This unit was established in 2016; at the time of its formation, the IPE Unit was chaired by Dr. Ida Bagus Wirakusuma, MoH, and IPE activities were primarily incidental, elective, and community-based, involving banjars in the Denpasar area. At that time, IPE was not yet included as a core course in the curricula of these seven programs. During the leadership of Drs. Supriyadi, M.Psych. (2018–2020), efforts were made to establish IPE as a required course; it was then designated as a 1-credit course, spanning from the third to the seventh semesters, for a total of 5 credits. However, the process of implementing this course across all study programs was not easy due to differences in the learning curriculum systems and competency frameworks within each program. The effort to make IPE a required course continued under the leadership of Dr. dr. Desak Ketut Indrasari Utami, Sp.S. (2020–2025), who successfully established IPE as a required course in several study programs and reduced the course load from 5 credits to 4 credits, spanning from the third semester through the sixth semester. This change took place in 2020, before the pandemic, through a curriculum workshop involving IPE coordinators from all seven participating study programs. In 2026, the IPE unit was led by Desak Ketut Ernawati, S.Si., Apt., PGPharm., MPharm., Ph.D., who continued the effort to ensure the IPE unit functioned effectively both administratively and operationally, so that students and faculty could gain the collaborative experience required of future healthcare professionals. Of course, the IPE unit cannot function effectively without the support of administrative staff, all coordinating faculty members, and faculty serving as facilitators from the seven academic programs—all of whom are committed to developing and continuing efforts to foster collaborative competencies among health science students at Udayana University.
